Terms of Service
Last updated August 14, 2026
The short version: Be honest, respect other members, use SYNCd for friendship rather than dating or harassment, and use good judgment when meeting anyone offline.
1. Agreement to these Terms
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to syncd.life, the SYNCd mobile application, and related services (collectively, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into these Terms. The initial beta is designed for eligible Rutgers students and invited participants. You must provide accurate account information and may not impersonate another person.
3. Your account
You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure and for activity under your account. Tell us promptly at hello@syncd.life if you believe someone else has accessed your account. You may not sell, transfer, or share an account.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Harass, threaten, stalk, discriminate against, exploit, or deceive another person.
- Use the Service primarily for dating, sexual solicitation, commercial spam, or unauthorized promotion.
- Post illegal, hateful, violent, sexually explicit, fraudulent, or privacy-invasive content.
- Share someone else's private information or images without permission.
- Create fake or duplicate accounts, manipulate compatibility results, scrape profiles, or use bots.
- Probe, disrupt, reverse engineer, or bypass security or access controls, except where applicable law expressly permits it.
- Use the Service in a way that violates law, university policy, or another person's rights.
5. User content
You retain ownership of content you submit. You give SYNCd a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, store, reproduce, and display that content only as reasonably needed to operate, secure, and improve the Service. This license ends when the content is deleted from active systems, except for limited backup, legal, or safety retention.
You are responsible for having the rights and permissions needed to submit your content. We may remove content that violates these Terms or creates risk for members or the Service.
6. Compatibility and recommendations
Compatibility scores, match reasons, groups, and conversation suggestions are estimates based on available information. They do not guarantee friendship, safety, accuracy, or any particular outcome. Do not treat them as professional, psychological, or safety advice.
7. Offline safety
SYNCd does not conduct comprehensive background checks and cannot verify every statement a member makes. You are responsible for your interactions with others. Use reasonable precautions, meet in public, tell someone you trust where you are going, arrange your own transportation, and leave any situation that feels unsafe. In an emergency, contact local emergency services.
8. Beta service
SYNCd may be offered as an early or private beta. Features may change, contain errors, or become temporarily unavailable. We may add, remove, suspend, or discontinue features as we develop the Service.
9. Our rights
The Service, including its software, design, branding, and original content, is owned by SYNCd or its licensors and is protected by law. These Terms do not grant you a right to use SYNCd names, marks, or software except as needed to use the Service.
10. Suspension and termination
You may stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may limit, suspend, or terminate access if we reasonably believe you violated these Terms, created risk or legal exposure, or misused the Service. Where practical, we will consider the nature and severity of the issue.
11. Disclaimers
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available." We disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement. We do not promise that the Service will always be secure, accurate, uninterrupted, or error-free.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, SYNCd will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, goodwill, or opportunities arising from the Service. SYNCd's total liability for claims relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $100. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New Jersey, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Unless applicable law requires otherwise, disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in New Jersey.
14. Changes and contact
We may update these Terms as the Service changes. We will post the revised Terms here and update the date above. Material changes may receive additional notice. Questions can be sent to hello@syncd.life.
